| Description:
Spotted knapweed is a biennial or short-lived perennial growing one or
few branching stems from a taproot. Basal leaves are larger than leaves
on the stem and pinnate. Flower heads occur singly on branch tips and
have pink rays. Spotted knapweed was introduced to North America from
Eurasia in contaminated forage seed.
Control: Biennial plants require depletion of nutrient reserves in the root system to reduce second-year growth, prevention of seed production and prevention of dispersal. |
