Description: Perennial sowthistle reproduces from seeds as well as creeping roots. One or few stems grow 2 to 4 feet tall from a basal rosette of prickly leaves. Leaves often have a gray cast to them, with leaves on stems few and clasping. The plant oozes a white, milky sap when stems are broken. Flower heads are entirely rayed with yellow petals. Perennial sowthistle is native to Europe. It thrives in moist soils. Control: Perennial
plants require depletion of nutrient reserves in the root system, prevention
of seed production and prevention of dispersal. The roots should not be
broken up. Individual root pieces may produce new plants. |
